It was a sold
out function with more than 50 members and guest attended the event. A
big thanks to Vice Commodore for her efforts made with the
preparations of the BBQ food which was then complimented with the
performances of Ady Wow.
The
performances by Ady created a new standard of entertainment for the
SYC. Although he was alone, the choices of songs and his ability to
get the members involve has made the evening a memorable event
especially for Jacob Pang, as it was also his birthday.

SYC Harvest
Festival Celebrations 2008
23rd May 2008
With less than
a month to prepare for this event, the committee wasted no time and
results were astonishing.
The Guest of
Honour of the event, Sandakan Municipal Council President, Mr. Yeo
Boon Hai was not able attend the function and was represented by the
Councils Director of Finance & Development, Mr. Peter Hampadu. In his
opening address, Mr. Peter congratulated the SYC Committee for having
such event as not many NGO's in Sandakan were in tune with the Local
Council's efforts in promoting Harvest Festival. He reiterated that the
Local Council, in their efforts to promote Harvest Festival which
coincides with Tourism in Sandakan will render its full support to SYC
for holding such events in the future.
Upon ending
his address, a thunderous applause was received from the audience and
he proceeded by officiating the event with 7 beats of the Gong.
Thereafter,
The Sri Tari Sandakan was invited to perform the cultural dance.
Among the traditional dances they performed were the Rumbai, a
traditional dance from Kinabatangan, Sumazau from Labuk,
Sumazau from Penampang and finally, the Anggalang Magunatip,
a bambu dance from the Murut clan of Sabah.
As soon as the
Traditional performance was over, we started the 'Unduk Ngadau'
or Harvest Queen competition where the participants were judged based
on their Costume (20%), Presentation (20%), IQ (20%) and finally
Beauty (40%).
A total of six
participants joined the competition with RM 500.00, RM 300.00 & RM
200.00 for the 1st, 2nd and third placing respectively.
The
competition, divided into two rounds where the 1st round involved a catwalk and the 2nd round
an IQ test.
After the
the 2nd round, the Commodore invited the Guest of Honour for a light
meal together with all the participants while the judges compiled all
the results of the competition.
The
fairest of them all went to Stavanie Wee Mei Li, followed by Ms
Victoria Yam Pei Ling and Christylyn Rambong. Congratulations ladies!

On behalf of
the Committee, we wish to thank Guinness Anchor, Paul Sabinus who
sponsored the trophies, crown & sash, and the members who

The SYCs EGM & AGM ended today

However, Edward Cheng & Kelly Ho were nominated for the Rear Commodores
post and Edward came out as the winner through a
secret ballot.
The Hon Sec & Hon Treasurer post
went to A.R. Natarajan and Henry Liau respectively. Both posts were
also uncontested.
Two new faces were nominated for
the Committee post. They were Paul Sabinus and Shakila Tan. Ricky Chin
& Daniel Liaw was re-nominated.
As soon as the new committee was
