The SYC is a non-profit, volunteer-run yacht club situated just off the northern end of Sandakan Town on beautiful Sandakan Bay along Buli Sim-Sim Road, a club where none of its local members own a yacht and overseas memberships and visits assist in keeping the club financial.
Our goal is to provide an enjoyable atmosphere where we can gather for social events, promote water activities, and cultivate community relations. We are a very family oriented club, with youth sail training on most weekends.
There is a great deal of activities going around with a lot of sailing boats, cargo vessels, ferries, the Royal Malaysia Navy, the Sandakan Marine and other commercial vessels they all ply along the water ways.

The lack of Bye-Laws to deal with car parking issues had unfortunately caused a lot of frustration to members, and the management committee in particular.
To put matter in proper perspective, the Car Park Bye-Law is deemed necessary to provide some guidelines to better manage the limited car parking space.
Based on a preliminary draft of the Bye-Laws, the committee had deliberated on the parking issues and adopted it at the meeting held on 19 September 2010.
In recognition for being in existence for more than 50 years with very good track record for
abiding to regulations and for making prompt annual returns, Sandakan Yacht Club was on the
1st November 2010 presented with a certificate by the Registrar of Society (ROS), given out by the our
Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Youth and Sports, Sabah YB Datuk Pang En Yin.
